Sometimes when we all walk in the woods on a hike or nature walk, we instinctively pick things up that catch our eye. Here's a wonderful way to display all of your earthy treasures, while learning about the concept of assemblage!
Art term:
- ASSEMBLAGE: A way of making art that uses found objects to create a three dimensional work of art.
Some artists who use assemblage:
- Louise Nevelson
- Robert Rauschenberg
Materials:
- 1 sheet of construction or drawing paper
- Nature walk findings
- White Glue
- Crayons (optional for additional decorating)
Here are some suggestions for some things to collect:
*Try to collect things (already fallen on the ground) are light in weight, heavier items might fall off when you hang your masterpiece.
- Acorns
- Leaves
- Small pebbles
- Twigs
- Walnut shells
- Pine cones
- Flowers
- Grass blades
- Pine needles
- Bark
Glue your treasures to the paper. You may choose to create a pattern or place them in a random way that is pleasing to you. It might be fun to take some things apart (like a pine cone) and scatter them across the paper. This is a fun way to see what the inside of some of your findings look like.
If you like, you can draw on your picture too!
More learning: Get a book from your library to identify and label your findings. Also, look at your collection with a magnifying glass...what do you see up close?
This is a beautiful collage. Thanks for the idea! I am going to have the group of girls that I teach at church make one as they are learning about God's world.
